Self-Care Sunday
Hey girl! So after a long week of being an employee, mom, lover, friend & student… life be life-ing LOL. At some point we need to take a moment for ourselves. Often times it’s hard to do that without feeling guilty. Or it’s hard to find the time to do that. OR on a financial aspect, there’s simply no room for the extras. When we take care of ourselves, we feel good, and we are able to function as our best selves.
Lucky you.. I have a remedy!
So we’re going to pick 1 day out of the week to be selfish and cater to ourselves. Best of all, it’s on a budget. I like to call it Self Care Sunday, but you can pick whatever day works best for you. This is the day you dedicate the evening to yourself. We can’t be our best selves if we don’t take care of ourselves. As the nurturers and care takers we usually cater to everyone around us and neglect ourselves. We lose ourselves and forget to love on ourselves.
This is one of the exact reasons, amongst others, that I fell into a deep depression. I lost myself to being a wife, mom, daughter and friend. I forgot to be my own friend and love on myself WITHOUT feeling guilty. It took me a while to learn to give myself grace and I reminded myself that I’m important too and what I need matters as well. Often times we can’t sit and wait on someone to rescue us like we rescue them. So, we have to put our own capes on and save ourselves.

Essential Oil Bubble Bath
Sunday is usually the one day in the week that’s less hectic… in most cases. If Sunday isn’t your day, take the time to find the one day in the week where you can take two hours to yourself. You don’t have to leave home or spend money.
Put the kids to sleep,put your phone on DND, and tell your partner “not right now”.
Once you have some peace and quiet, run a nice hot bath with Epsom salt. Dr. Teal’s has some of the best relaxing bath soaps and Epsom salt with essential oils. I never use any other brand. Especially because my girl is extremely sensitive to products with scents or anything that’s not natural. So, I have to ensure whatever I use, she can handle.
Together, Eucalyptus oil and spearmint oil can relieve aches and pains, stress and anxiety, and is great immune boosters. With our schedules as hectic as they are, we could all use something simple to make taking a bath more relaxing.
zen music
With this bubbly bath, you’re going to want to release the day with meditation music. I like to call it my Zen music. I’m sure all Music platforms have a station where you can find meditation music only. Pandora has a station for meditation music, but the commercials always ruin the moment for me.. and no, I’m not paying for Pandora LOL. I do pay for Apple Music though. To save you the hassle of finding an album or List of Zen music, you can always add mine to your playlists.
Body Sugar Scrub
There’s no way we’re about to soak in this relaxing bath, get out and still have crusty skin! There are many ways to exfoliate. The best way is with a dry brush. But since that’s the most uncomfortable way, we aren’t going to go that route today, unless you enjoy it want to go that route. We want to keep it spa-like, smooth and fresh.
In this case, we should use a body sugar scrub. With MANY options out there, the best I can do is recommend my favorite affordable scrub. Tree Hut never let me down when I’m on a budget. Again, you want to go with a subtle scent to keep the spa-like regimen going.
skin care masks
Girl we can’t forget the face! Once you’re done with the bubbly bath, make sure to moisturize, and relax! But the pampering shouldn’t end there. A sheet mask is relaxing, and it allows the serum to soak into your skin. The only part I can’t stand is when you first put it on, how cold it is LOL. But once you get it lined up on your face, you’re good to go!
The great thing about these masks is there is one for every type of skin issue. Dark spots, acne, uneven skin tone, dryness… you name it, there’s a skin care mask.
hand & foot massage
Something we neglect often is massaging our hands and feet. As a parent who works and never gets to sit or rest, our hands and feet definitely feel the worst of it. What we’re going to do, is get them done. But what we’re not going to do is take care of the muscles and tendons.
There are actual benefits to massaging your hands and feet like reducing stress, anxiety, and lowers blood pressure. In the likeness of mental health, this puts us exactly where we want to be.
So let’s finish this spa with a hand and foot massage. For my girlies who type all the time, you need this!! carpal tunnel cares less when it decides to act up. The perfect fix is a hand massager with a little compression and heat, you can eliminate the pains. While you getting your hands massaged, this is the perfect time to go ahead and take care of your feet as well.
moral of the story
We owe it to ourselves as moms to take care of ourselves. When you feel good, your mental state is better, and that allows you to be a better mom. Mom life is hard. Working mom life is hard. Working mom and spouse life is hard. All of the demands we take on end up taking a toll on us mentally and physically.
It’s okay to be selfish 1 day out the week and cater to yourself. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to do it. Make it a guilt free day and remind yourself that you deserve to be pampered, even if that means you have to do it yourself. Making the evening your pamper time helps to take away from the mom-guilt feeling because everyone around you has been tended to.
